SpaceX to send two individuals on a trip around the moon
Elon Musk’s Startup SpaceX will send two person on a trip around the moon sometime next year. The private space company SpaceX has planned to fly humans for a long time: In 2014, NASA awarded both SpaceX and Boeing contracts to fly astronauts to the International Space Station, which is being taking shape .
The two astronauts whose identity has still not been disclosed will be packed inside the capsule, stacked on top of a Falcon Heavy. Then they’ll lift off from Launchpad 39A.
The Falcon Heavy and Crew Dragon are still under research, with each scheduled for separate test flights later this year. They will go through rigorous test before being used for the mission.
In a briefing today Musk says the Falcon Heavy will lift off later this summer. As for the human-rated Crew Dragon, Musk says he expects to test fly the first capsule by the end of this year. “Six months later we will fly NASA crew to International Space Station, then about six months after is when we’ll do the lunar orbit mission,” he says.
Though being hammered reportedly to reveal the names, Musk has kept them under wraps and said they “have already paid a significant deposit to do a moon mission,” he says. Before launching them into space on a highly compressed timeframe, they’ll undergo health and fitness tests, along with training to begin later this year.. They will Touch the surface, plunge a little deeper and then be back on earth, he told.,”. “I’m guessing probably distance-wise probably 300,000 to 400,000 miles.” The mission should last approximately a week
The 2018 lunar goal is a sort of a surprise. Musk made another grand proclamation, that 2018 would be the year his company launches its first mission to Mars Just six months ago. Last weekend, SpaceX president Gwynn Shotwell told a group of reporters that the company was pushing back its first Mars launch to 2020, so it could focus more on the crew capsule, standing in front of Launchpad 39A .
This is gonna really be something worth witnessing. Fingers Crossed!!
