Agriculture minister announces the increase in MSP of rubi pulses and oil seeds
Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh on October 24, announced the decision of government to increase MSP (Minimum Support Price) of rabi pulses and oilseeds which includes a bonus of Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 per quintal. The pulses include wheat, barley, gram, masoor and oilseeds include rapeseed/mustard seeds and safflower. Ministry declared the support price of Rs. 4,400 per quintal for gram includes a bonus of Rs. 150 per quintal. Similarly, a bonus of Rs. 100 per quintal will be provided on masoor, rapeseed/mustard seed and safflower in this year. Considering sum, the MSP of masoor is Rs. 4,250 per quintal, that of rapeseed/mustard seed Rs. 4,000 per quintal, and safflower is Rs. 4,100 per quintal for the rabi season 2017-18. Bonuses have not been announced for wheat and barley, the MSP (Minimum Support Price) of which has been fixed at Rs. 1,735 per quintal and Rs. 1,410 per quintal, respectively. The government had proclaimed the bonus in the last two years in a bid to lift production of pulses and oilseeds, thereby dropping the country’s dependence on imports.
